Single Parenting: Making It On My Own
An Enrichment & Support Group
for Single Parents
No one daydreams about when she or he
will finally become a single parent! There are no fairy tales
that inspire a young girl to wish she could be a beautiful
peasant maiden who grows up to be the happy single mother
of five wonderful kids. Becoming a single parent – except
for those situations where a single adult chooses to adopt
a child – is usually thrust upon the parent, ready or
not. It is a reality for 12 million adults in America today.
At New Hope we are starting a new group
just for single parents. This unique group will help you sharpen
your parenting skills as well as provide a place where you
can receive encouragement and support. Topics to be covered
in the group include:
*Coping as a Single Parent *Dealing with
the Other Parent
*The Single Parent & Work *Providing for Your Family’s
Needs
*Single Parents & Social Life *Finding Inner Strength
Location & Time
Single Parents meets each Thursday evening
from 7 to 8:30 PM at the administrative offices of New Hope
Community Church in Chula Vista, CA (925 Hale Place #A-10).
Please visit the Contact Us
page for location and driving directions.
Cost
The cost for Single Parents (all 6 sessions)
is only $10 and includes the participant’s manual. Scholarships
are available if needed. Please don’t let finances keep
you from getting the help and support you need.
Childcare
Childcare is available on site IF reservations
are made with the church office in advance. Please call the
church office by Wednesday if childcare is needed (619-482-7087).
The cost is $2 a session for the first child and $1 extra
for each additional child.
Single Parents’ Leaders
Single Parents is led by Barry Latislaw
and Barbara Guthrie. Both are members of New Hope Community
Church and both know first hand what it’s like to be
a single parent. Barry was a single parent for over 10 years.
Barbara is a single parent with two children living at home.
Barry and Barbara also know the difference Jesus Christ and
a strong support group can make.
Start Date
Single Parents begins on Thursday, August
26th. If there is a week or two when you know you cannot attend,
don’t let that stop you from being part of the group.
Each session is “self-contained.”
