New Hope Ministry Opportunities

There are many ways in which you can serve God through the various ministries here at New Hope. Please look at the list below and see what fits for you. If you need help in determining what your natural gifts are then you might consider taking class 301: Getting to know your "S.H.A.P.E."  Please contact Pastor Melba for more information.

Acts of Kindness Leader

Help plan and carry out servant evangelism projects in our community, i.e. painting house numbers on curbs, free car wash, giving away water and coffee one Saturday to show God's love.

Acts of Kindness Worker

Carry out servant evangelism projects as described above.

Adult Bible Class Teacher

These teachers work closely with the Pastors. They teach either pre-prepared course material or material of their choice, pending Pastoral approval. The courses can run from four to thirteen weeks, or as discussed. They provide a crucial part of New Hope's adult Bible curriculum in an effort to develop well-rounded, mature Christian adults.

Angel Tree Coordinator

Plans the annual program to acquire donated toys and clothing for the children of incarcerated prisoners, wrap and deliver them. Promote to the congregation and recruit volunteers.

Table Host

Most Christians never visit a Christian bookstore. This ministry seeks to bring a Christian bookstore to our people. Each Sunday a book table is set-up in the back of the gym. The book table host for the 9 am service is responsible for arriving a few minutes before the service and setting the book table up. He/she is also responsible for sitting at the book table and collecting money as books are purchased both before and for a few minutes after the service. The book table host for the 10:30 am service is responsible for also manning the book table and breaking down the book table after the second service is over.

Car Care Coordinator

This coordinator supervises the "Car Care Ministry" at New Hope, which was set-up especially to assist widows and single parents with periodic, basic car care. Normally, three times a year a "Car Care Day" is held. Widows, single parents, and really any single can bring their car to the car care location and volunteers will change the oil, oil filter, air filter and do a basic, routine inspection of the car. The only cost involved is the actual cost of the parts for the car. All labor is donated and therefore free. The Car Care Coordinator makes sure the appropriate parts and volunteers are in place for the car care day.

Car Care Volunteer

These volunteers donate their time to service the cars (change the oil, oil filter, air filter, and do a basic inspection of the vehicle) brought in by our widows, single parents and singles on Car Care Day. There are normally three car care days held during the year.

Child Care Volunteer

Care for children during New Hope sponsored events like seminars, classes and servant team meetings.

Children's Church Coordinator

Organize supplies & snacks. Help as needed with games, discovery time and activities. Tracks attendance and tithes & offerings.

Children's Drama Leader

Work with children on skits and plays for children's worship and special events. Also teach puppet skills and teach puppet skits.

Children 's Worship Leader

Leads children in learning how to worship through song & prayer.

Children's Worship - Music

Accompany children's worship leader in teaching children to worship.

Children's Worship Teacher

Teaches biblical lessons during the children's church hour.

Church Clerk (Secretary)

The church clerk is an elected position by the membership of New Hope. The clerk is responsible for attending, taking minutes, and filing an official copy of the minutes for all called church business, church council, and other official church meetings. The church clerk must be a member of the church.

Cleaning Services

Cleaning the church offices and, occasionally, items at the high school.

Clerical Volunteers

Work with the office manager to complete various clerical jobs at the office.

Ministry Leader

Assist college age youth to form groups, study the Bible, develop mentoring relationships, and teach them as needed. Work with the youth pastor to choose curriculum and develop social activities.

Computer Administration

Work with the pastoral staff and office manager to keep the office computers upgraded & functioning. Design and update the New Hope Web Page. Advise the staff on more efficient ways to use the computers.

Cookie Ministry Coordinator

Organizes and charts cookies delivered to first time visitors

Cookie Ministry Team Member

Makes and deliverers cookies to first time visitors

Costumer

Work with the children’s ministry team to design or make costumes for children’s drama, plays, VBS or other events.

Craft Coordinator

Work with the children’s ministry team on craft ideas, acquiring materials, and teaching others to do craft projects.

Data Entry

Use keyboarding skills to assist the office manager in updating the church’s databases.

Design/Art

Design and create displays and poster boards for use at worship and special events. Create T-shirt designs for various church events and sports teams.

Drama Ministry Team

The drama ministry of New Hope seeks to communicate the good news of Jesus Christ through drama. Short skits and sketches are performed during worship services, which tie in with the message theme. A well-done drama makes a powerful impression.

Financial Class Teacher

Teach personal financial management skills to our members to assist them in living a debt-free life and to be good stewards of the gifts God has provided. Must be approved by the pastoral staff.

Financial Counselor

This ministry seeks to aid people at New Hope with financial concerns such as budgeting, biblical teaching on money management, making wise financial decisions, getting out of debt, etc. The church sponsors special financial seminars. Financial counselors may work with individuals or small groups in dealing with financial matters. An individual must go through certain training specified by the church in order to be recognized as a financial counselor at New Hope.

Financial Secretary

The financial secretary is responsible for overseeing the counting of the weekly church offerings and other financial activities of the church as well as maintaining accurate records of the member’s contributions. This is a church elected position; the financial secretary must be a church member.

Follow-up (of new Christians) Team

As people make decisions to become Christians, there is a tremendous need to help these new believers fully understand and solidify their new-found faith in Christ. In New Hope’s follow-up ministry a trained Christian along with a helper meet with the new believer weekly for 4 weeks to go over 4 lessons for a new Christian and help the person become integrated into the life of New Hope.

Greeter

The greeters help people feel warmly welcomed by giving a warm, sincere smile and handshake before our Sunday morning services. They also help by giving people programs. People won’t return unless they feel cared for.

Halftime Coordinator

Periodically at certain worship services at the church, i.e. when a special guest comes to New Hope or for just a special time of interaction among our church family, light refreshments are provided outside the gym on the porch area between the 9 & 10:30 am services. This special time is called “halftime.” Halftime is designed to encourage people, especially guests, to stay for a few extra minutes to have some refreshments and meet others at New Hope. The halftime coordinator plans these events and contacts volunteers to bring the various refreshments needed.

Half-time Volunteer

These people volunteer to bring baked goods for the halftime social event as contacted by the Halftime Coordinator.

Home Fellowship, & Small Group Coordinator

This coordinator is responsible for the Home Fellowship and small group ministry at New Hope. He/she oversees the ministry as a whole, communicates the vision of this ministry to the Lay Pastors, oversees the selection and training of Lay Pastors, helps choose the Bible study material, oversees the publicity for Home Fellowships and small groups, coordinates system-wide social events, and ensures that those who express a desire to be involved in a Home Fellowship & small groups are contacted.

Hospital Visitation Coordinator

Responsible for organizing and charting visits made by hospital visitation team members.

Hospital Visitation Team

Those in this ministry work with the staff to ensure that visits are made and care given to those in the hospital or at home for illness, births, surgery, etc. Care and support are also given to family members of the individual. Team members make visits as needs arise.

Host/Hostess at Information Table/Bible Table/Sign-up Table & Refreshment Table Hosts/hostesses help members, attenders, and guests stay “in touch” with all that is going on at New Hope. They sit or “man” the various tables to answer questions, provide needed information, help serve coffee & juice, handle the distribution of Bibles and take registration for the various activities that we offer.

Host/Hostess for Outreach Events

Greet and provide information as need at various outreach activities.

Inside Greeter

Check with a staff member each Sunday you are in worship to find any new guest attending that worship, go & meet them & possibly sit with them during worship.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry Coordinator

This person oversees the prayer concerns of the church family and friends as requested. He/she does this by publishing a regular prayer list, coordinating the “Prayer Chain” for emergency requests, recruiting new prayer warriors, and coordinating the Saturday morning prayer meeting.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry Member

Members are on the 24-hour emergency prayer chain, which is designed to receive, relay to other members, and pray for emergency prayer requests. Non-emergency requests are also given to members who are asked to faithfully pray for the different needs.

Knowing God Study Leader

Often people who are not Christians come to New Hope seeking to know and have a personal relationship with God. We offer a special 4-week course entitled “Knowing God.” This short course helps a non-Christian understand what it means to be a Christian and how to establish a relationship with God, i.e. become a Christian. We offer a special workshop to train those who are interested in how to lead the Knowing God study. Then as people express an interest in going through the Knowing God study, we match trained leaders with students.

Ladies Night Out Ministry Team

Periodically (usually quarterly) our women have a special function entitled “Ladies Night Out.” This is a fun-filled evening which includes various activities such as icebreakers to meet other women, games, refreshments or a meal, crafts, fun features, guest speakers, etc. Ladies Night Out is designed to help women at New Hope develop new friendships and provide a non-threatening place where ladies at New Hope can bring their unchurched friends to meet and interact with Christians and have an enjoyable evening. The Ladies Night Our Ministry Team plans and coordinates Ladies Night Out.

Land/Building Task Group

This task group is in charge of raising money that goes directly into our Land/Building account which will be used one day to purchase land and a facility for New Hope, and for exploring potential land/building sites. The primary way funds are currently raised is through the sale of food and store scrip (cash vouchers), and through the Time To Build financial pledges that have been made by members of the New Hope Family.

Marriage Enrichment Group Leader

The stability and well being of our nation and society lies in the family. New Hope is committed to building strong families. The core of the family is the relationship between the husband and wife. Marriage enrichment groups led by qualified couples in our church are offered at New Hope to help each couple learn to relate to each other in such a way that they achieve the joy and satisfaction in the marriage relationship that God intended.

Men’s Bible Study Leader

New Hope offers many types of Bible studies. Realizing that men have special needs, the church offers Bible studies just for men. These groups are led by qualified men from the church. The goal is to raise up godly men who impact their home, church and community.

Mentors

Maturing Christians willing to invest in the life of another Christian to help them grow in their relationship with the Lord. Meet on a regular basis to teach, assist, challenge, and nurture the mentoree. Continually grow in your own Christian walk through this experience.

Mentor Teacher for Children ‘s Ministry

Professional teachers who work with a Sunday School teacher to help them learn teaching skills, classroom management, and model and observe teaching style to help the teacher grow.

Missions Ministry Team

This team helps those attending New Hope to gain world perspective and vision by learning about and participating in missions projects both locally and internationally. The team plans missions projects for the church locally, in Mexico and abroad.

MOPS Coordinator

Lead the Mothers of Preschoolers program. Acquire site for monthly meeting, special guests or activities, and ladies to assist in the events.

Multi-Media Specialist

Work with the staff to produce worship enhancing media productions. Develop ideas, working with the Worship leader, drama team, video specialists and pastors.

Nominating Committee

This committee is elected by the church membership and is composed of 3 church members and the pastor. They work together to produce a slate of candidates to be voted on by the church membership to serve on the various elected committees and church offices.

Nursery Worker

Work in the nursery on Sunday mornings during one of the worship hours. Must be approved by Pastor Melodi.

Office Volunteer

Assist the office manager to get the weekly bulletin, flyers, and signup sheets ready for Sunday. Help with other projects at the office as they come up.

Outreach Caller

The Outreach Caller establishes contact by phone with those new to the church, have special needs, or have been absent for a while. The purpose of this ministry are to help the people assimilate into the life of New Hope, help the church stay abreast of people’s needs and concerns, to give our people important church information, and to help prevent them from feeling like the church does not genuinely care about them.

Outreach Caller Coordinator

This coordinator oversees the Outreach Caller ministry by staying in contact with callers, recruiting and training new callers as needed, and conducting periodic Outreach Callers’ meetings.

Outreach Team Coordinator

Coordinate different events to bring our unchurched neighbors to New Hope events. Work with the pastoral staff to develop and implement servant evangelism events.

Photographer/Multi-Media Specialist

In the day and age of modem technology-based presentations, Multi-Media forums provide a unique means of ministry. This person works to chronicle the life of New Hope through the use of publicity boards, slide shows, video productions, and sound tracks.

Picnic Coordinator

Enlist volunteers to promote, setup, bring food, cook, receive money, and cleanup. Secure all supplies and food needed.

Santa’s Workshop Coordinator

In the fall months leading up to Christmas special craft nights are planned in which New Hope members or guests instruct how to make various Christmas decorations and crafts. These workshops are designed to help women at New Hope develop new friendships and provide a non-threatening place where ladies at New Hope can bring their unchurched friends to meet and interact with Christians and have an enjoyable evening. The Santa’s Workshop Coordinator oversees the planning and execution of the Santa’s Workshops.

Scholarship Fund Raiser Coordinator

This coordinator is in charge of overseeing the raising of money which is used to help provide scholarships to various events such as workshops, retreats, and seminars offered by New Hope and special training events outside New Hope. The primary scholarship fundraiser is the annual church rummage sale held in June. Other activities could include bake sales, pizza nights, etc.

Seminar Leader/Presenter

Those with special skills or training who share their information with the rest of the church in a seminar format. All seminars and presenters must be approved by the pastoral staff.

Breakdown Coordinator

Sunday Worship set-up and break-down needs vary from week to week. The responsibility of the Physical Arrangements Coordinator is to see that people are signed up to set-up and break-down, that the chairs are set properly, and that any special physical arrangements needs (i.e., projection screens, props, chairs up front for interviews, etc.) are met.

Set-up, and Breakdown Captain

Lead one of the monthly crews in either setting up the gym for worship or breaking down afterwards. Make reminder calls to all assigned team members a few days before the scheduled Sunday. Assure quality control and proper preparation for worship. Train new crew members on proper procedures.

Set-Up and Break-Down Crews

The members of the set-up crews help to prepare the Worship Center and classrooms for the Worship services. The break-down crews return the school to better-than-before condition after the services. Normally each person volunteers to help set-up or break-down once a month, i.e. the third Sunday of each month, and is placed on a setup or breakdown crew.

Single’s Ministry Coordinator

This person works closely with the staff to see that the singles at New Hope have many and various opportunities to interact both socially and spiritually. This person coordinates the socials, Bible studies, and other group activities.

Single’s Ministry Team

This team seeks to meet the spiritual and social needs of the singles at New Hope. Team members work closely with the Singles’ Ministry coordinator. Responsibilities include planning socials, Bible studies and special seminars and events.

Single Parents & Children’s Fellowship Coordinator

This coordinator oversees the monthly Single Parent & Children’s Fellowship meeting. The purpose of this group is to provide encouragement and support to our single parents.

Social Events Coordinator

Organize special events such as banquets or dinners. Coordinate promotion, decorations, volunteers, food, and cleanup. Work with pastoral staff on various events.

Sound Technician

The sound tech. endeavors to become an expert at operating the sound system/mixer board. He/she works closely with the Worship Leader to do sound checks and any special A/V needs. Generally the sound tech for the first worship service arrives early to coordinate the sound system set-up, and the sound tech for the second service stays late to facilitate the breakdown. He/she must know the meeting schedule, noting when special sound needs occur. He/she also plays background music before and after each service.

Sports Camps for Kids — Organizer

Help to secure locations, guest coaches, and volunteers to work at sports camps for baseball, football, soccer, basketball, and other camps. Arrange food and drinks as needed. Secure permission slips and payments for all participants. Provide information about New Hope to each family.

Sports Camps for Kids — Worker

Assist the coordinator where needed to facilitate the camp. Sign in of kids, collecting permission slips, organizing, feeding and coaching as needed.

Sports League Organizer

Organize a specific league such as softball, basketball, bowling or volleyball. Work with the sports ministry coordinator to acquire facilities, set the dates, promote the league, organize teams and assure that all equipment is available and ready when needed.

Sports Ministry Coordinator

The Sports Ministry Coordinator oversees the sports ministry at New Hope which seeks to provide recreational opportunities for those at New Hope and for their friends. Such recreational opportunities are also designed to be an outreach tool to build relationships with the unchurched. The Sports Ministry Coordinator sets up various sports leagues such as softball, volleyball, basketball, flag football, golf, bowling, etc., recruits coaches, secures fields, etc. He/she also makes sure New Hope’s goal in our sports ministry is clearly communicated to all participants, and that is to have fun, build relationships, and display Christ-like character on the field. Winning is not our ultimate goal.

Sports Ministry Coach

The Sports Ministry Coach provides recreational opportunities for those at New Hope and for their friends. These opportunities also need to be an outreach tool. A coach helps publicize and recruit players for the various sports teams the church fields, collects registration fees, secures needed equipment, serves as coach during games, helps to plan socials for the team, and communicates New Hope’s goals in our sports ministry: To have fun, build relationships, and display Christ-like character on the field. Winning is not our ultimate goal.

Staff Relations Committee

This church elected committee is composed of 6 church members. This committee serves as a liaison between the church body and church staff. They conduct the yearly evaluate of the senior pastor and review the evaluations of all other staff. They work with the senior pastor in the hiring of new staff for the church and work on policies and procedures for staff.

Stewardship (Finance) Committee

This church elected committee is composed of 4 church members and the church treasurer. The stewardship committee prepares the annual church budget to be adopted by the church body as well monitor the financial activities of the church and makes appropriate recommendations to the church.

Sunday School Director

(There is one for each service)

This Director works under the supervision of the Children’s Minister on staff at New Hope and oversees the children’s Sunday School ministry by helping to recruit and train teachers and helpers, conduct quarterly teacher’s meetings, plan teacher training, and order materials and supplies. There is a director for the 9:00am Children’s Ministry and a director for the 10:30am. Children’s Ministry. This is an elected position that must be approved by the Children’s Minister at New Hope and by the church.

Sunday School Helper

The Sunday School Helpers assist an assigned Sunday School teacher in conducting a weekly class for children during one of our two worship hours on Sunday morning.

Sunday School Teacher

Our Sunday School teachers plan and conduct an assigned children’s Sunday School class each week for a specific age group ranging from preschoolers through sixth grade. He/she also attends monthly Sunday School teacher’s meeting and special teacher training workshops.

Supper Six Coordinator

This coordinator oversees the Supper Six social groups in which 6 people meet together once a month for a meal for three months (or 3 times). Supper Six groups are designed to help those at New Hope develop meaningful friendships among group members in a fun, relaxing and enjoyable way. He/she publicizes the Supper Six events, coordinates sign-ups, helps to assign groups, and provides creative dinner ideas for the groups.

Support Ministry Coordinator

This ministry strives to bring healing and wholeness to those in need through special workshops and support groups. The coordinator recruits and trains support group leaders, helps to plan special seminars, workshops and support groups, and serves as a resource person to support group leaders.

Support Group Leader

The Support Group Leader plans and facilitates a particular support group such as single parenting or divorce recovery. Tasks include securing a place, childcare (if needed), and resources, and planning socials. New Hope offers support groups in many different areas such as: anger, children of divorce, children with learning disabilities, codependency, dealing with aging parents, divorce recovery, getting a grip on your finances, parenting preschoolers, parenting teens, single parenting, and stress.

Treasurer

This church elected officer serves the church by making bank deposits, writing checks, and overseeing the financial reports and records of the church. The treasurer must be a church member.

Trustees

By state law the church is required to have trustees who act as the church’s legal representatives when needed, i.e. to sign legal papers, etc. Three trustees are elected by the church. A trustee must be a church member.

Usher/Greeter Coordinator

Realizing that first impressions are critical, this coordinator oversees the Ushers, Greeters, and Information Table, Bible Table, Sign-up Table, and Refreshment Table hosts/hostesses. He/she recruits two ushers, two greeters, and an Information Table, Bible Table, Sign-up Table, & Refreshment Table host/hostess for each service, trains them to perform their jobs, and encourages them to view themselves as New Hope’s ambassadors.

Usher

The ushers help facilitate a smooth worship experience by helping people feel welcome and cared for by giving them programs and helping them find seats. This allows the people’s concentration to be upon what God is doing.

Vice Moderator

The vice moderator conducts business meetings in the absence of the church moderator, who is the senior pastor. This official is elected by the church and must be a church member.

Video Production

Help to produce videos of New Hope events. Assist staff in preparing video presentations for worship services, classes and seminars.

Women’s Ministry Coordinator

This coordinator ensures that New Hope offers opportunities to meet the special needs of New Hope’s women. She will survey our congregation, recruit leaders, oversee the Women’s study, help coordinate special functions such as Ladies Night Out and the annual Women’s Retreat, and evaluate our effectiveness with the supervising staff person.

Women’s Retreat Planning Committee

Committee members help in the planning and preparation of women’s retreats, working with the Women’s Ministry Coordinator to offer a special, quality time for the women at New Hope.

Women’s Study Leader

Study Leaders are responsible for the content, agenda, and scheduling of the Ladies’ bible study in an effort to help create an environment for the Holy Spirit to meet the needs of New Hope’s women in a unique way. The leaders set meeting times, dates, and locations, assign childcare responsibilities, and help to provide a setting conducive to vulnerability and honesty. They also prepare lesson plans for the study/fellowship times.

Worship Team Member

Members of the worship team (both vocalists & instrumentalists) work as invited and instructed by the Worship Leader to provide the church with meaningful worship experiences. They understand that they are vessels used by the Holy Spirit to 2help.cteate and atmosphere where God can work in individual’s hearts and lives.

Young Adults Ministry

Those who are willing to work with young adults in our church in Bible studies, on social events, and in mentoring settings.

Youth Leader

The Youth Leader serves as a model of the Christian life, develops meaningful relationships with the youth, plans and leads activities which would help the youth enter into a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ, and help them to continue to grow in that relationship. Specific events could include leading a youth Sunday School class or mid-week Bible study group, discipling, planning a social event each month during the school year, planning retreats, and involvement in the youth summer ministry, and Tuesday & Thursday Nights Together (TNT).

Youth Small — Group, Host/Hostess

Provide a safe home environment for one of our weeknight youth groups to meet in for sharing and Bible study.

Youth Worker

Youth Workers serve as a model of the Christian life, develop meaningful relationships with the youth, and assist the youth leader as assigned to plan and lead activities which would help our youth enter into a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ and continue to grow in that relationship.
