Arts Academy Class Descriptions
Archery
Learn the sport of Archery using proper technique and equipment provided for use by Olympic Archery Team. This course is held here at New Hope in the dirt lot. Introduced July 2010.
Ballet A Beginning
This introductory class teaches your child classical ballet technique and body placement for strength, flexibility and posture. Your child learns choreography for performing opportunities in church.
Ballet A Intermediate
Here we teach your child classical ballet technique transitioning to the next level. Learning turns, waltz steps, and basic ballet. Your child learns choreography for performing opportunities in church.
Ballet B
This ballet class is about strengthening the body, maintaining flexibility with classical ballet technique. Learning body placement & musicality, too. Your child learns choreography for performing opportunities in church.
Ballet C
Ballet C open to teens to adults this class offers a more fitness approach to ballet technique. Using music as a guide learn the flowing art and strengthen your body. There are also performing opportunities in church.
Capoeria
A Brazilian martial arts combines elements of, music, and dance. Introduced to the Martial Arts Academy in July 2010.
Creative Dance
Create dance creates more structure with ballet technique, learning dance placement & choreography. Your child learns choreography for performing opportunities in church.
Creative Dance Intermediate
Here we use ballet, jazz & basic tap techniques to learn the art of dance. Your child learns choreography for performing opportunities in church.
Gentle Yoga
Gentle Yoga is a creative integration of the Word, physical postures, breath control, and healthy alignment that will develop strength, balance, and flexibility for adults. Taught by Registered Yoga Teacher Gina Bolles Sorensen, this class will bring you peace through gentle exercise. Please bring a beach towel and a yoga mat if you have one. Other materials will be provided.
Ground Fighting Techniques
Ground Fighting Tactics is a combination of close range fighting from the styles of Kenpo Karate & Jiu-Jitsu. This particular style of defensive fighting consists of quick hand movements, which also follows through with the use of elbows, palm strikes, hammer fists, knees and kicks to over come your opponant. It emphasizes angles of fighting positions, protection from ground positions or attacks, arm bars, leg locks, chokes, strangle holds and other basic escapes. This form or defense is better known as Mix Martial Arts. Very popular and highly effective.
Guitar I
This class will cover Rock Rhythms, Tablature, Notation, and Fret Board Technique in the First and Second Position. We will be learning guitar riffs in the keys of E Minor and A Minor. We will also be playing melodies in the Aeolian, Mixolydian, Dorian and Phrygian modes. We also begin to learn some common Power Chords which the student is able to practice with the full band accompaniment CD. (Text book with CD is an additional cost).
Guitar II
In just 8 weeks, those who completed Guitar I will be eligible for this next level. We will be learning the art of playing lead guitar by applying the concepts of syncopation, improvisation, and composition to the students own leads. Each student will be able to take the lead as a band breaks into an instrumental section. We build a foundation starting with the A minor Pentatonic “Box” and learn specific melodies that can later be transposed to other keys.
Guitar III
Here we increase our knowledge of Guitar harmony by learning several other full power chords that are used in all styles of Guitar Music. We learn how to transpose shapes so that we can eventually cover any major or minor chord. We learn syncopated rhythms that these new chords can be played to and how to identify them visually instantly from sheet music. We learn alternate ways of playing the most practical chords to use in live situations. This Method will prepare the serious guitar student to play rhythm and lead guitar in the studio and the stage.
Holy Hip-Hop - Tiny Tots (Ages 3-4)
Tiny Tots Hip Hop is designed for the very young dancer 3 and 4 years old. Using many different exciting dance activities and creative props, the young dancer will begin to develop balance, coordination, rhythm and simple dance technique. Fine and gross motor skills will soon develop in this energetic hour! The class will also teach the value of taking turns and working together.
Holy Hip-Hop - Class A (Ages 5-7)
This class focuses on body coordination directly related to basic hip hop movement. It is set to enhance your child's rhythm and ability to retain choreography. There are possible performance opportunities offered.
Holy Hip-Hop - Class B (Ages 8-11)
This class is designed to enhance the basic skills your child already has. We work to prepare your child for performance opportunities as well as challenge them with choreography. Performance opportunities may be offered.
Holy Hip-Hop - Class C (12-Teen)
This class is structured around dancers that have some hip hop experience and who have the ability to pick up choreography more quickly. Your child will be challenged to retain multiple choreographed routines. Students are expected to participate in performance opportunities.
Holy Hip-Hop - Adult
Adult Hip-Hop is a fun and high-energy class geared to help you develop style, learn some new moves, and get fit in the process. Open to adults of all levels and experience.
Pilates - Adult
Pilates is a unique and intelligent fitness system for improving posture, core strength, and body awareness. This class is a fun way to improve the long-term health of your body. Open to adults of all levels and experience.
Keyboard I
Students as young as 4 years old can benefit from building a foundation on the piano. Each student in the class on their separate piano learns the names of the notes, the finger technique, the ear training with intervals and the memorization of common melodies. Whole songs are learned and performed in class. Each lesson builds on the last and gets them ready for Keyboard II.
Keyboard II
In just 8 weeks, those who completed Keyboard I will be eligible for this next level. They learn a very practical way to recognize note names on the Grand staff instantly. They learn to sight read the three octaves of the Grand staff effectively. Students will be amazed at how quickly and easily they will be able to coordinate both hands while reading bass and treble clefs at the same time.
Keyboard III
This class continues the application of learning songs and increasing the skill of each student to independently read both clefs. We then start to read Rhythm and Blue Rhythms incorporating today’s grooves and chord progressions. (Text book with CD is an additional cost).
Mommy & Me
A fun creative class that teaches the child rhythm, balance, & listening skills. Using imagery and singing your child learns stretching, dance and listening techniques to help prepare for the next level. Each class starts with a short prayer.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts classes encompass a variety of lessons in drawing, painting and sculpture/assemblage. The students are encouraged to unleash their creative juices while incorporating elements of fine art and design learned from the master artists. Since God created all things, we also explore the relationship of how God fits into our art subject matter and the creative process. Students who are inclined towards creative thinking and using their hands will grow in this supportive atmosphere and develop their art skills.
- Art class A: Monday 4:00-5:00- ages 5-9
- Art class B: Tuesday 4:00-5:00- ages 10- High School
- Art class A: Tuesday 5:00-6:00- ages 5-9

Voice Ensemble (auditions only)
Auditions are easy to schedule and we keep them very encouraging. Please call for specific openings for all ages. Students will focus on mastering songs for the stage. Performances are scheduled regularly. Each student is expected to be a faithful part of the team. Opportunities include performing for shows at New Hope Community Church Events and Services. Teenage and up ensembles will learn Multiple Part Harmonies.
Zumba
Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program. Introduced July 2010
"123 You & Me"
This parent & child class is to provide a safe place for young children, parents & grandparents to sing, dance, play, read, create, explore, discover & learn together. Children will learn appropriate social skills, while parents & grandparents will have the opportunity to fellowship with other adults and discuss the joys & challenges of caring for young children.
