Bi-Weekly Notes (2/17)

Cubit (Ex 25:10): A cubit is the distance between a man’s elbow and the tip of his middle finger or the length of a man’s forearm. The distance is approximately 1.5 feet and obviously varies from person to person and whether your are using just your forearm or adding your fingers. The Egyptian’s had a Royal Cubit that was made out of stone and was guarded vigorously. The penalty of loosing or damaging the royal cubit was death! This is how the pyramids were constructed so accurately.

Shekel (Ex 30:13): A Shekel is a unit of measurement. Many people assume that a shekel is a coin but it is not. A shekel weights half an ounce or 1/32 of a pound.

Asherah (Ex: 34:14): Asherah is the goddess of Baal Worship. Baal (aka Molech) is the main god of this religion and Asherah is his mistress. The religion is practiced by many cultures within Canaan and even spreads to many of the Israelites. Jesus uses the name Beelzebub, which is a derivative name of Baal, to describe the prince of demons. The Bible uses Baal/Molech/Asherah/Beelzebub approximately 200 times. The religion REQUIRES sexual immorality and infant sacrifice. Some of the Kings of Israel sacrificed their children for this pagan religion.

Sacred Stones (Lev 26:1): The Bible mentions Sacred Stones or other forms of significant stones many times. These stones are typically large rectangular stones that are erected to signify that an important religious event had occurred there. It’s similar to today’s monuments that signify that an important event has occurred there like the World Trade Center Memorial.
