Read Genesis 21-23
  1. Why did Abraham send Hagar and Ishmael away?
  2. How was Abraham tested in Chapter 22?
  3. Where was Sarah buried?

So here’s the book on Lot:
1. He showed tremendous disrespect for his elder patriarch (who just saved his bacon a few chapters earlier) when he chose the prime land when graciously offered the choice instead of deferring to Abraham.
2. He at a minimum showed tacit condoning of Sodom and Gomorrah’s hideous culture.
3. Offered his virgin daughters.
4. Allowed his daughters to marry into a pagan culture (something Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob avoided at great length or dreaded).
5. Didn’t really want to leave sin city when no less than angels told him to and then still tried to bargain a less than God fearing location.
6. Didn’t protect his wife from spiritual attack and failure (ie. death).
7. And that whole uncomfortable drunken incest thing with his daughters.

And yet in 2 Peter 2:7, the Holy Spirit via Peter calls Lot “that righteous man.”

How should we explain this apparent dichotomy to a Bible skeptic?
